Come and stay at The Old Bakery in the beautiful South Norfolk countryside. You’ll find us in the Waveney Valley village of Pulham Market, just 10 minutes away from the country market towns of Diss and Harleston. Pulham Market is a small but perfectly formed, quintessential Norfolk village, with traditional Village Green, charming period cottages, thatched roofs, two pubs and beautiful scenery.
The perfect location for a short break with beautiful countryside on the doorstep, plenty to do nearby and the lively city of Norwich with an abundance of live entertainment venues, historic architecture and excellent shopping a short drive away.
Easy to get to, The Old Bakery is just an hour and 40 minutes from J28 of the M25 and the same travel time takes you from the mainline station at Diss to London Liverpool Street.
This is a delightful listed building, with wattle and daub walls and a timber frame, exposed internal beams and bags of character. Dating from 1580, The Old Bakery was initially established in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I as the main bakery for the Pulhams, although the last baker retired in 1951. The building has been in continuous use for more than 400 years, as a bakery, a restaurant and now as a home to the current owners, Jim and Theresa, and a boutique bed and breakfast. From 2021 this beautiful home is also available as a self-catering holiday let should guests prefer to book the whole house and be fully independent.
The Old Bakery has four spacious en-suite bedrooms, private parking for guests, and a delightful garden complete with Garden Room. The large, comfortable lounge / breakfast room features a small library, piano, exposed beams, and a beautiful fire making this a warm and cosy retreat in winter and a cool haven in summer.
Please note that we do not accommodate children under 16 years of age or dogs in the bed and breakfast however, this does not apply to self-catering holiday lets.
We aim to make every stay at The Old Bakery special but if you’re planning your visit to celebrate a special occasion or as a surprise for a loved one why not make it extra special with flowers, chocolates or a home baked cake waiting when you arrive.
We’re also happy to make recommendations for a special meal and to book tables in advance – always advisable as some of the best local establishments get booked up early.
If your stay is business related, or perhaps you’re getting away to work in peace and quiet, we offer free WiFi internet access throughout the property. With our small but eclectic library The Old Bakery would also make an ideal retreat to get away and work on that book, thesis, or journal article you’ve been meaning to write, we are, after all, only half an hour from Norwich, a UNESCO city of literature and home to the Writers Centre.
Our nightly rate at The Old Bakery for Bed and Breakfast ranges from £75-105. We also offer special short-break deals for stays of two nights or more at weekends and three nights or more mid-week as well as special weekly rates – please call us on 01379 676492 for more information. Details on pricing for booking the property as a self-catering holiday let are available from cottages.com
